Water and the athlete

Staying properly hydrated is one of the most underrated performance factors in endurance sport. Water regulates body temperature, transports nutrients and clears waste — and even mild dehydration can cut performance dramatically over ultra distances. Learn to drink to a plan, not just to thirst, and to balance fluids with electrolytes on long, hot stages.

This is one of a growing series of practical guides from the GlobeRacers team. Endurance performance is built on the fundamentals done consistently — training, fuelling, hydration and recovery — long before race day arrives.

What works in theory has to work at kilometre 120.

Test every strategy in training, on the terrain and at the effort you expect on race day. Small, repeatable habits are what carry you through the back half of an ultra.
