Globeracers believes that we are all stakeholders in the conservation of our planet’s fragile water resources. We have a global responsibility to educate our participants, both locally and internationally, about the importance of water conservation. Whether it is running through the Himalayas, or across the Thar Desert, we expose our participants to the hardships faced by the people inhabiting the regions where we run, in their pursuit of the most basic human need, ‘WATER.’
While, many people around the world are not yet affected by the global water crisis, water shortages are already a reality for hundreds of millions of people across India. And it will get worse. As the glaciers in the Himalayas, which feed the largest rivers in Asia shrink, the liquid lifeline for over two billion people dwindles. In the last decade, agricultural land and water levels in the Himalayan rivers have already been impacted. The water situation in Rajasthan, the driest state in India, could be even more disastrous. The state is dependent on a massive underground water pipeline known as the Indira Gandhi Canal. The canal is dependent on the glacier’s runoff.
Globeracers will invest a portion of our funds from participants fees and sponsorships into local projects that support our mission. In Pokoran, we are working with the local government to educate people in the area about the importance of returning to the old methods of rainwater harvesting, so they are not dependent on the canal.
Our target is to leave as small an environmental footprint as possible. We, as an organization, are always open to ideas from our supporters on how we as an organization can be even more environmentally aware.
